Abstract
In aluminous hematites, α-(Fe, Al) 2O 3, absorption of the 14.4 keV gamma-ray used in 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy increases with substitution of Fe 3+ by Al 3+. This trend may be masked by a superimposed dependence of absorption on particle size in the microcrystal range below about 400 nm.
