Abstract
Nowadays, there is an increased demand for adult orthodontics. Adult orthodontics is concerned with balance between achieving optimal proximal and occlusal contact of the teeth, acceptable dentofacialesthetics, normal function, and reasonable stability. Orthodontic treatment planning for any malocclusion will involve determining the type and the sequence of tooth movements. This could be either adjunctiveorthodontic treatment (tooth movement to improve aparticular aspect of the occlusion in order to facilitate other dental procedures that are needed to controldisease and restore function) or comprehensive orthodontictreatment (treatment to correct the malocclusion). No single treatment route is best for all adults who have malocclusions and who many times have problems that involve other areas of dentistry aside from the specialized area of orthodontics. Thus this paper reviews the adult orthodontics, the goals of adult orthodontic treatment, and treatment planning during adulthood period.
