Abstract
The case report describes the placement of a TIPSS preceding surgery of the upper gastrointestinal tract in a patient with liver cirrhosis and gastric carcinoma. Following two unsuccessful exploratory laparotomies, the decreased portal hypertension facilitated a curative resection of the tumor.
