Abstract
The aim of this work is to present a series of considerations about welfare to work, a particular form of response to the crisis of the welfare state developed in the ’80s in the United Kingdom and considered by many as the way towards a modern “European social model” to oppose to the present Danish Flexicurity.Analyzing its historical path, it can be observed how governments, first Conservative and then Labour, have launched major reforms in public spending and deregulation of the labor market without sacrificing what Habermas called “loyalty of the masses”. In particular, we show how the welfare to work is defined as the ideal model of privatization of the welfare state, without knowing the huge support that the public apparatus gave to it.
