Abstract
The importance of teamwork is being increasingly recognised in healthcare. Nonetheless, it is equally recognised that teamwork is difficult. In this article, I explore whether we can learn lessons from musicians, orchestras, and conductors as we build our teams. The evolution of the role of the conductor provides useful lessons on leadership and the evolving role of the members of the orchestra on how team members can contribute to a shared outcome. The uncertainty of jazz provides useful lessons for innovation in an increasingly turbulent healthcare environment.Reference Key |
