WHAT IS TRUST? COMPARING EUROPEAN AND TURKISH STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS - GÜVEN NEDİR? AVRUPALI VE TÜRK ÖĞRENCİLERİN ALGILARININ KARŞILAŞTIRILMASI

Abstract

Abstract:This study aims to enhance the understanding oftrust which seems to be a confusing subject. Although trustseems to be a more related topic with psychology or sociologyliterature, it has also turned to be a growing subject inorganizational research.In this research, the notion of trust that is always mentioned asan “intangible”, “confusing”, and “hard to define” isexplored. Within this endeavor, two focus groups which haveaimed to reveal students’ perception about trust and itsimportance is presented. One of these focus groups isconducted with Turkish students and the other one isconducted with European students. Both of the groups consistof Erasmus students who have come to Denmark as exchangestudents to study for a term.Özet:Bu araştırma karmaşık bir kavram olan “güven” inidrakini arttırmayı amaçlamaktadır. Güven her ne kadarSosyoloji ve psikoloji alanlarının konusu gibi gözükse de, sondönemlerde yönetim yazınında gittikçe artan bir önemkazanmaktadır.Bu araştırma kapsamında “soyut”, “karmaşık” ve“tanımlanması zor” olarak nitelendirilmiş olan güvenkavramı incelenmiştir. Bu araştırma, öğrencilerin güvenkavramına ve önemine ilişkin algılarını ortaya koymayıamaçlayan iki odak grup incelemesini içermektedir. Bu odakgruplardan biri Türk öğrencilerle, diğer ise Avrupalıöğrenciler ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Her iki grup da, Erasmusöğrenci değişim programı kapsamında Danimarka’ya gelenöğrencilerden oluşmaktadır.
