The article aims to better understand the negative affects linked to an intensive use of digital communication technologies : dependence and “addiction” to the Internet, depressive symptoms and anxieties associated with social networks and media multitasking, fear of missing out (FOMO), perception of phantom phone signals and nomophobia with the smartphone. From a transdisciplinary perspective, the article analyzes psychological and psychosocial processes, major effects and determinants of phenomena involving negative affects and intensive use of digital communication. Finally, it opens new perspectives and hypotheses for research.
