Abstract
Gender mainstreaming is an essentially contested concept that evokes a variety of meaningsand involves different types of political practices. In general, gender mainstreaming experiencesare nothing more than a continuation of previous policies of equality between the sexes.Attempts to conceptualize gender mainstreaming reflect central tensions of the theory andfeminist practice. Also, some of them focus on proposals to overcome these tensions, articulatingthe concept with new approaches to contemporary political thought. This article aims toprovide a theoretical reflection on gender mainstreaming, through the conceptualization oftheoretical models that facilitate the analysis of the practices raised on its behalf.
