Narratives of security form increasingly European countries’ policies, laws and strategies on (or against) migration. According to these narratives, being both inside and outside, migrants challenge the States’ internal and external securitizing action. Drawing attention to the historical development of the concept and political meaning of security and of the role of the State in guaranteeing security, this article surveys the effects in terms of rights violation of the securitization of migration, with particular consideration of the rights of the unaccompanied migrant children moving to Italy and Spain.
