Abstract
A resolver is a position sensor or transducer that measures the instantaneous angular position of the rotating shaft to which it is attached. Resolver produces two amplitude modulated signals; SIN and COS as output signals. These two signals need to be demodulated and converted to digital signals before they can be used for control. There are several techniques available in the literature to measure the rotor shaft angle. This paper focuses on the design of both hardware and software based resolver to digital converter (RDC) techniques available in the literature. This literature review helps the researchers to know about all these methods and plan future work on RDCs to improve the angle tracking performance.
