Abstract

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y retrospectivo con los 173 pacientes consumidores de bebidas alcohólicas que fueron dispensarizados por la Misión Barrio Adentro en las manzanas I y P de Trapichito, Valencia, del Estado de Carabobo, en Venezuela, desde diciembre de 2003 hasta febrero de 2004, con el objetivo de caracterizarlos. Para realizar el estudio se investigaron todos los mayores de 10 años para saber si consumían o no bebidas alcohólicas. A todos los consumidores se les realizó un interrogatorio buscando las variables: edad, sexo, estado civil y edad de comienzo de la ingestión del tóxico. También, se les aplicaron los cuestionarios utilizados internacionalmente para el pesquisaje del alcoholismo. Se concluyó que la mayoría de los consumidores tenían menos de 40 años, eran hombres y estaban casados o acompañados. También, la mayoría de los bebedores comenzaron la ingestión del tóxico antes de los 20 años y clasificaron como consumidores de riesgo según los cuestionarios aplicados.
A retrospective and descriptive study was undertaken to characterize 173 consumers of alcoholic beverages that were categorized by the Inside the Neighbourhood Mission in the blocks of buildings I and P of Trapichito, Valencia, Carabobo State, Venezuela, from December 2003 to February 2004. All the individuals over 10 were studied to know whether they were alcohol drinkers or not. All the consumers were interviewed to search the following variables: age, sex, marital status, and the age they began to drink alcohol. Questionnaires applied at the international level were used for alcohol screening. It was concluded that most of the consumers were males under 40 that were married or had a concubine. Most of the drinkers began to consume alcohol before they were 20 years old, and they were classified as risk consumers according to the questionnaires used.
